What is SquirrelMail?
SquirrelMail is a standards-based webmail package written in PHP that includes built-in support for the IMAP and SMTP protocols. It offers MIME support, address books, folder manipulation and HTML 4.0 rendering without JavaScript, and can be extended with plugins. Its last stable release dates from 2011, so it is no longer actively maintained.
Project status: The Softaculous listing and the official site show the last stable release, 1.4.22, dated July 2011. The official site mentions nightly snapshots and a PHP 8 compatibility announcement from October 2021, but no stable release since 2011 was found, so it is treated as unmaintained. We list it because it is still available in the Softaculous installer; consider an actively maintained alternative for new projects.
