What is Vanilla?
Vanilla is open-source forum software written in PHP that emphasises a clean user experience, themes, add-ons and an API. Vanilla Forums was acquired by Higher Logic in 2021. Higher Logic announced that support for the open-source edition ended from January 2025, so the open-source code remains available but is no longer supported.
Project status: Search results for the official Vanilla community site show an announcement that Higher Logic, which owns Vanilla Forums, deprecated support for the open-source version effective 1 January 2025, keeping the code on GitHub as-is. The latest release listed on Softaculous is 2021.009 from June 2021. We could not open the announcement page directly. We list it because it is still available in the Softaculous installer; consider an actively maintained alternative for new projects.
