What is Flarum?
Flarum is open-source discussion software for online communities, built with a PHP backend and the Mithril JavaScript framework. It focuses on a fast, responsive interface and an extension API for adding features. The code is developed in the public flarum organisation on GitHub and licensed under MIT.

Flarum requirements
- PHP: PHP 7.3 or higher for Flarum 1.x; Flarum 2.x requires PHP 8.3 or higher
- Database: MySQL 5.6+/8.0.23+ or MariaDB 10.0.5+ for Flarum 1.x
- PHP extensions: curl, dom, fileinfo, gd, json, mbstring, openssl, pdo_mysql, tokenizer, zip
- Apache with mod_rewrite, or Nginx
- SSH access and Composer for managing extensions from the command line
Flarum runs on PHP and MySQL, but its documentation lists SSH access and Composer for maintenance and extension management. Plan for command-line access if you want to add extensions.
