What is Moodle?
Moodle is an open-source learning management system written in PHP and released under the GPL-3.0. Schools, universities and companies use it to run online courses with forums, wikis, assignments and peer-review workshops. It can be extended with add-on plugins, and each release line publishes its own PHP and database requirements.

Moodle requirements
- PHP: Moodle 5.2 requires PHP 8.3 or 8.4 (64-bit) with the sodium extension; max_input_vars of at least 5000
- Database: Moodle 5.2: MySQL 8.4+, MariaDB 10.11+ or PostgreSQL 16+
- Cron configured for background tasks
- A moodledata directory outside the web-accessible area
- Docs suggest a minimum of 512 MB memory, with 1 GB or more recommended
- From Moodle 5.1 the web server must serve the public directory
