What is Lychee?
Lychee is a free, open-source photo management and sharing web application released under the MIT licence and maintained by the LycheeOrg community. It runs on your own web space, letting you upload, organise, tag and publicly share photos without handing them to a third-party service. A separate Supporter Edition adds extra features.

Lychee requirements
- PHP: PHP 8.4 or later (per the manual installation docs)
- Database: MySQL 5.7.8+ / MariaDB 10.2+, PostgreSQL 9.2+ or SQLite3
- PHP extensions: bcmath, ctype, dom, exif, fileinfo, filter, gd, json, libxml, mbstring, openssl, pcre, PDO, Phar, SimpleXML, tokenizer, xml, xmlwriter
- Apache or nginx web server
- Optional: imagick, PhpRedis, FFmpeg (video thumbnails) and Exiftool (metadata)
- Composer and npm are needed when building from source
Current Lychee needs PHP 8.4 or newer with a fairly long list of PHP extensions, so the account must be set to a matching PHP version. Building from source needs Composer and npm, whereas the Softaculous one-click installer avoids manual setup.
