What is Monstra?
Monstra is a small content management system written in PHP that stores its content in XML files instead of a database. It was aimed at small business websites and offered plugins, themes, developer APIs and multi-user roles. The project's own README now says it is no longer supported and recommends Flextype.
Project status: The project's GitHub README states that it is not supported anymore and points visitors to Flextype.org. Softaculous lists version 3.0.4 from April 2016 as the latest package. We list it because it is still available in the Softaculous installer; consider an actively maintained alternative for new projects.

Monstra requirements
- PHP: 5.3.2 or higher
- Database: none (flat-file storage)
- SimpleXML module
- Multibyte String module
- Writable storage, tmp, backups and public directories
- Apache mod_rewrite or Nginx rewrite
It only needs PHP with SimpleXML and mbstring and writable folders, so technically it suits shared hosting. However, the project is no longer supported and its PHP requirement dates from very old PHP versions, so use it only where you accept that risk.
