What is Kohana?
Kohana is an open-source HMVC PHP framework that began in 2007 as a community fork of CodeIgniter. It is released under a BSD licence and is described as secure and lightweight. The official project is deprecated and its repository is archived, with a community fork called Koseven continuing separately.
Project status: Official GitHub repository archived on 21 April 2026; official site calls the framework deprecated, with last release 3.3.6 (25 July 2016). A community fork, Koseven, is mentioned on the official site. We list it because it is still available in the Softaculous installer; consider an actively maintained alternative for new projects.
