How to start a web hosting business with reseller hosting

Reseller hosting lets you sell hosting under your own name without buying or running servers. You rent a slice of a server, split it into accounts for your clients, and set your own prices. If you are new to the idea, start with what reseller hosting is.

1. Decide who you will sell to

Most successful small hosting businesses sell to people they already work with: web designers host the sites they build, agencies host their clients, and IT consultants host local businesses. Selling to people who already trust you is far easier than competing on price for strangers.

2. Pick a plan by number of accounts

Count the client sites you have now and expect in the next year. Our cPanel reseller plans run from 10 to 125 cPanel accounts, each with its own disk space and bandwidth allowance shown on the plan. You can move up a plan later without moving client accounts.

3. Set up your brand

Use your own nameservers, such as ns1.yourbrand.com, so clients never see our name. Your clients log in to cPanel with their own details, and you manage everything from WHM.

4. Create packages

In WHM, create two or three packages, for example Starter, Business and Pro, each with its own disk space and email limits. Keep it simple; clients pick faster from a short list.

5. Sort out billing

You need a way to send invoices and collect payments. Billing software such as WHMCS automates invoices, renewals and account creation. It is not included with our reseller plans, so add its cost to your budget, or invoice by hand while you are small.

6. Price for profit, not for the lowest number

Charge for what you provide: setup help, updates, quick answers on WhatsApp. Clients who value your time pay for it; clients who only want the cheapest price leave for the next offer.

7. Plan your support

You answer your clients; we look after the server, security and backups. Daily backups and server monitoring are included, so you can restore a client's site yourself when something goes wrong.
